POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
満月堂
Choose from duck-broth and meat-broth dipping noodles, seasonal chilled noodles and, to finish, anmitsu or dango. Mangetsudo brings the pleasures of a meal together with the sweets of a traditional Japanese confectionery shop.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At Mangetsudo, choosing a bowl of ramen is part of the pleasure. One visitor who came during the season for chilled noodles ordered the generously topped chilled tanuki ramen, noting the wide range of options that change with the seasons. For the classic shoyu ramen, another diner singled out the combination of thick, springy, smooth noodles and broth enriched with charred onion and aromatic vegetables. Large pieces of menma added a contrasting texture, while the chilli threads gradually brought heat to the broth as the meal went on.
The dipping noodles offer a choice between contrasting styles: meat-broth tsukemen, described as rich and a little spicy, and a lighter duck tsukemen with the aroma and flavour of duck stock. Another visitor enjoyed generous portions of the meat-broth and miso versions, making them options for a substantial lunch. Diners drawn to something less familiar have also shared impressions of the tom yum kung tsukemen and hot and sour soup noodles.
There is room for something sweet after the noodles, too—a natural extension of Mangetsudo’s identity as a Japanese confectionery shop. One diner ordered anmitsu after ramen, while others have described picking up dorayaki or dango on their way out. That makes it easy to plan not just a noodle meal, but a sweet treat to take home as well.
Mangetsudo serves Japanese sweets, ramen, set meals, à la carte dishes and alcoholic drinks. It is open from 11:00 to 15:00 for lunch and from 18:00 to 22:00 in the evening, and is closed on Tuesdays.
